Menu :: Alia :: A few handfuls of sand :: Bardenas Reales
Covering an area of about 151 mi2, the Bardenas Reales Spanish desert region lies south-east of Navarre. Divided into three main areas, La Negra, La Blanca and El Plano, it is composed of hills, plateaux and ravines where the erosion of marl, a compacted sedimentary rock, sometimes creates surprising forms, like the Castil de tierra hoodoo or fairy chimney. Its landscapes were used as sets in many spaghetti westerns, like For a Few Dollars More and Atolladero, and more recently for the series Game of Thrones.
